Read! Write!

Grandpa Tucker's Rhymes and Rales
Well, of course we have to start with our own Grandpa Tucker! He has loads of funny stories and silly poems and songs -- just for fun and for the holidays, too. You will learn to love that mischievous Sammy Snake. Grandpa Tucker will even show you how easy it is to write your own rhyming poetry.

IPL Youth Page
The ultimate site for your reading, writing, and research needs. Learn how to search the Internet and find suggested sites and onilne resources. Truly an Internet Public Library.

Poetry for Kids
When you're in the mood for a little giggle or a hardy laugh just read one or two of Kenn Nesbitt's poems. Don't "mith" one of my favorites, Mithing Tooth. And be sure to check out the How-To page for tips on writing your own poems and the Links page for pointers to some of the best poetry sites on the web.

HarperChildren.com
Follow along as Aliki, author of How a Book is Made, takes an idea from imagine to print. You can also meet HarperCollins authors and illustrators, and enjoy some special activities.
And games... "Whacky Words" is a game that let's you choose words to make a crazy story. You need to know the parts of speech to play Whacky Words, so older kids can help younger ones enjoy the game. Everyone can play "Switcheroos!" Put together parts to create a new (and sometimes weird) animal or alien or vehicle or robot -- and then give it an appropriate name.
This site is from HarperCollins Children's books. It uses lots of graphics which make some pages pretty slow to load for those of us on dial-up connections.

Stone Soup
Stone Soup is an international literary magazine written and illustrated by young people ages 8 to 13. You can read a sample issue, see beautiful art by children from all over the world, try writing projects and check out other interesting links.
One really neat feature: an archive of public domain books written by children. Currently it includes the complete text of the Young Visitors by Daisy Ashford (age 8), originally published in 1919 in England. A bestseller, it sold 300,000 copies in Britain in the first year of publication!

CyberKids
CyberKids is an online magazine written and illustrated for kids by kids ages 7 to 12. You are welcome to submit your poetry, stories, and essays. You will also find puzzles and games.

International Kids' Space
If this site is busy try the second location. This is another opportunity to have your stories published online. Make up your own or use a story starter.

MidLink Magazine
An electronic magazine for kids in the middle grades. Articles and stories written by kids, as well as links to favorite silly and serious sites.
